Dark anniversary: 30 years HI-Virus
2011 will be also the 30th anniversary of the discovery of the HI-Virus. Since 1981, when Michael Gottlieb first found the references of an unknown virus that soon was known as HI-Virus, the world has changed. Many fights have been fought, many were lost and some were won. But we are still on a long and winding road until the day that not one more life will be taken by AIDS or will be infected with HIV. Many celebrities raised their voice to increase awareness. Over 25 million people died of HIV/AIDS so far.

AIDS LIFE, an independent non-profit organization based in the Austrian capital, is the organizer of the annual Life Ball—an international charity event that raises funds to support people living with HIV. UNAIDS Executive Director, Michel Sidibé, joined the founder of the organization, Gery Keszler, at a press conference to announce the partnership. “UNAIDS is excited to team up with AIDS LIFE. This collaboration underscores the importance of building partnerships in the AIDS response and doing so in an innovative way,” said Mr Sidibé.
